Why the Bible?
While we view it as one “book”, the Bible is actually a collection of 66 individual books. It was written by more than 40 different authors, from different walks of life, on three different continents, over the span of 1500 years!
Despite all the diversity of the Bible, there are zero contradictions! The miracle of the Bible’s existence, proves that it can be trusted. The Bible is more than a story, it’s God’s “love letter” to you! There are so many “big” life questions that philosophers have asked, that God answers in the Bible: What is the purpose to life? Where did I come from? Is there life after death? The Bible not only answers these questions, but gives us guidance for everyday life.

1. Ask for Help
The Bible is God’s love-letter to his children. If you have a relationship with God, ask God to help you understand what you’re reading. We also have a staff that would love to help you grow as you learn. Feel free to ask for our help as well.
2. Consider who these words were written to…
Make no mistake, the Bible is very relevant for us today, but these words were originally captured for a specific audience of that day. Some books of the Bible are written as history, others are letters to specific churches, and others are letters to specific people. Identifying the original audience of a book will help make things clearer.
3. Consider what kind of writing your reading
Not all writings are the same. You wouldn’t send a text message to a friend with the same writing style you would use to hand write a letter to your grandmother. In the same way, the authors of the Bible used different writing styles, like poetry, narrative, and prophecy to communicate to their original audience.
The Bible isn’t meant to confuse you, so keep reading! The more we read, the better we get to know God and the more we understand what we’re reading.
